    Daniel Handler, also known as for his pen name Lemony Snicket, was born in San Francisco, California. His real name is Daniel Handler but he is known as Lemony Snicker. He is the son Sandra Handler, an opera singer and retired City College of San Francisco dean, and Lou Handler, an accountant who was once a Jewish refugee from Germany.

    Since his mother was an opera singer, Daniel started to enjoy participating in operas along with his mother in the early 80's. He started to sing with the San Francisco Boys Chorus in a few productions.
