    Israel declared independence. Egypt, jordan, lebanon, syria, & iraq attacked israel. THis caused israel to gain land. Egypt gained the gaza strip and Jordan gained the West Bank and East Jerusalem. Hundreds of thousands of palestinians and jews became refugees.     Settlement Construction Begins: 1967
    Settlements were built West Bank and the Gaza Strip were being rebuilt from previous wars and attacks. They were also being built to be protected better against terrorist attacks. This construction increased the population in Westbank from 3,200 to 300,000. This new construction made it hard from Palestinians to travel in or through westbank.     Egypt blockaded Israel. Egypt, Jordan, Syria, & Iraq moved troops to Israel's borders and made threatening statements. Israel's launched a preemptive strike. As a result, Israel captured the West Bank and east Jerusalem from Jordan, the Golan Heights from Syria, and all of the sinai Peninsula from Egypt. More Palestinians and jew became refugees. Terrorism became more common.

    Egypt and Syria attacked Israel and Yom Kippur. Israel pushed back the attack Syrian troops were stopped 10 miles from Tiberias, Israel eventually retained the territories it captures in the war in 1967, but did not keep the additional and remaining land.     Egypt and Israel sign a Peace Agreement
    Egypt made a peace treaty with Israel. President of Egypt Anwar Sadat realized that constant war with Israel was destroying the economy. Eventually, Israel returned the Sunny land captured in the 1967 war. This Agreement made between Egypt and Israel was called the “Land for Peace” Policy.     PLO in Lebanon was attacking attacking Israel (this is the first Lebanon War with Israel). Israel was able to PLO into Tunisia. Israel became involved in the Lebanon Civil War. Israel withdrew from the Lebanon civil war in 1985. Israel did become friendly with Lebanon however, the second war between Lebanon and Israel took place in 2000. "Infinity Journal.     Palestinians in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank appraised against israel. Israel was attacked by suicide bombers and terrorist attacks. Israel used military force to contain the violence. An equal number of bothe sides fighting were killed. This fighting stopped in 1993 when the Oslo accords were signed.     They were a set of AGreements made in 1993. ( Signed to make sure that Israel gave up land for security). This led to the creation of Palestinian authority in Westbank and the Gaza Strip. Israel's still had the right to defend itself. Around the time when the Oslo accords were signed, PLO started to recognize Israel as a country.     Bill Clinton brought Israeli prime minister to camp david as an attempt to negotiate and agrimarine with Israel and Palestine. This was to make Palestine a state.     General Ariel Sharon visited Temple Mount, which is sacred temple for Arabs and Jews, Palestinians thought this visit was an attack. This caused many deaths for Jews and Muslims.     This was a plan for peace betweeen U.S., Russia, European Union and the United Nations, it involves reciprocal steps by Israel and Palestine with an ultimate goal of an idependtent Plaestine.     Conflict grew between the Hamas and the PLO Fatah. The Hamas attacked Fatah members, however the Hamas government was dissolved.
