    *Need to know that privileges are connected to responsibilities and that consequences are clear
    *Fiercely independent
    *Always in motion
    *Care what others think
    *May rebel against many directions or direct orders
  • Ages 11-13

    Ages 11-13
    *Peer pressure is intense
    *Body changes cause embarrassment and self-consciousness
    *Develop strong friendships
    *Begin to understand the feelings of others
    *Need to be given responsibility and able to learn from consequences
  • Ages 14-18

    Ages 14-18
    *Difficulty holding back or controlling emotions
    *Prefer physical activity
    *Prefer high excitement and low effort activities
    *Poor planning and judgement
    *Take part in more risky and impulsive behaviors such as experimenting with drugs and alcohol
    *Selfishness and self-absorption
    *Some physical awkwardness
    *Increase of skills or increase in frustration as he/she begins to try new things
