    The Greeks didn't use the color of somebody's skin to differentiate one another. People didn't known the Greek language were known as "Barbarians" which comes from the word "Barbor" (Meaning one who does not speek Greek. Anyone had the ability to assimilate into the Greek culture if they learned the language and wore the clothes.

    Slavery began when Slavonic tribes captured German people to sell them to the Arabs. Slavery doesn't have to do with the color of one's skin. Throughout history diffferent groups have enslaved each other due to conquest and economical times ("Origin of the Word Slave").

    Up until the 1700's African Americans had a positve reputation. Back then Africans were cattle breeders and very good in arts and crafts. Africans had an immunity to the Old World Diseases which made them better laboerers. At one point the colonists thought that they were unable to survive without the Afircans.     The Naturalist Blumenbuch opposed slavery. However he drew out a pyramid that laid out the different social classes. Blumenbach placed white people at the top because he found a white persons skull and thought that it was "beatiful" This was the beginning of claims that weren't necessarily true

    Counting Slaves
    Every ten years the United States counts how many people are in the country. There was a debate in 1790 how government counts slaves. The 3/5 compromise solved the debate (slaves were counted as 3/5 of a person)

    The Supreme Court declared the African Americns were not citizens therefore they weren't protected under the law.

    Virginia Racial Purity Act: Any individual had any tracing of African ancenstry. This is known as the One Drop Rule.

    By 1835 there are many branches of the American Anti- Slavery Society. As more and more people tried to fight agsinst slavery more people fought for slavery. Scientists claimed that African Americans were inferior to whites and they also used the bible to get around freeing the slaves. ("Abolition Stregthens the Idea Of Race").

    In 1935 Congress passed laws in hopes to protect White Americans workers.
    1) Social Security Act: This act excludes Asians, African Amercans and Mexicans from recieving insurance when they get older. 2) Wagnerr Act: This act was created to prevent non whites from entering a Union or getting a successful job. Minorities needed the secure feeling of belonging in a union due to their unsteady jobs. ("Minorities Denied From Social Security/ Excluded From Unions")

    The wealth gap between Blacks and Whites is getting larger and larger. The Average white family has eight times wealther than a non white family. In many suburban communities the Black population makes up 1% of the community. There is a 60% greaer chance that Black and Latino morgage applicants will be turned down for a loan.
