    Napoleon Bonaparte is born in Ajaccio on the island of Corsica.
  • Start of the French Revolution

    Start of the French Revolution
    The start of the French Revoltion began with the Tennis Court Oath which occured shortly after the Third Estate was locked out of the Estates General meeting because they declared themselves as the National Assembly. The Third Estate then relocated to a nearby tennis court took the Tennis Court Oath. This oath was that the members vowed would stay together until a written consitution is created.

    Reign of Terror

    This was a period during which the Jacobin political party took control of Frech politics. The Committee of Public Saftey was created which tried people acused of treason. During the Reign of Terror, as many as 15,000 people lost their head by the guillotine which was the popular more humane way of execution. The Reign of Terror ended when the leader of the Jacobins and the Comittee of Public Saftey, Max Robespierre who was also beheaded by the guillotine along with other members.

    Napoleon a captain at the time, had succeeded along with the French Repulbic army and drove out the British and the French Royalists from the port of Toulon. He had come up with a plan to capture a hill to gain an advantage. He was also promoted to a brigadier general.

    Napoleon had proposed the idea of an Egyptian campaign in hopes to disrupted English trade with India and the West Indies along with creating a French presence in the Middle East. This campaign, however, ended with failure but Napoleon managed to keep this news from the rest of France.

    Napoleon had led a coup d'état and overthrew the Directory. He then replaced it with the French Consulate wich he himself was First Consul.

    A vote was held and the result is that Napoleon would become and stay as First Consul for his entire life. He was also strongly supported by French voters.

    During Napoleon's reign, he established a French civil code known as the Napoleonic Code. Some of the principles of the code included things such as the equality of ctizens, freedom of religion, and merit based advancement.

    Napoleon had been crowned emperor along with his wife Josephine at Notre Dame cathedral with the presence of Pope Pius VII.

    Napoleon had planned to break through the current British blockade of France. He also had planned to invade England after there was a clear way to England. The took place at cape Trafalgar with the French forces losing most of its ships while the British held a decisive victory without losing a single ship.

    The battle of Austerlitz which took place near Austerlitz, Austria was one of Napoleon's greatest victories as he successfully defeated the Third Coalition. His victory against the combined Russian and Austrian army had also brought an end to the Third Coalition.

    This was a policy created by Napoleon in hopes to hurt England's economy. This policy was that it was forbidden to have Engish ships in any Europeon ports along with the possesion of English goods. This ended up hurting Napoleon more than it hurted England as many of the Europeon needed the English goods with caused them to grow resentment against Napoleon.

    In Spain, Napoleon had removed the current king from power andput his brother on the throne. He had also undermined the Spanish Catholic church. Because the Spanish citizens had remain loyal th=o the king and the church, they revolted. They fought using Guerilla warfare and also were supported by the British.

    Invasion of Russia

    Due to Russia's withdrawl from the Continental System, Napoleon decided to invade Russia. He heads towards Moscow with 600,000 troops but the inc=vasion was a failure due to the cold winter, starvation, and the Russian Scorched Earth tactic. Napoleon ends up returning to France with less than 20,000 soldiers as the rest had either died or deserted.

    Retreat from Moscow
    When Napoleon had arrived in Moscow, he had found it empty similar to the many villages napoleon had come across. Napoleon now finds out that he cannot spend the winter in Moscow as there is no food or shelter so his only option is to retreat.

    This was one of the first battles in which Napoleon had been decisively defeated. The coaliton army that had defeated his French army later invaded France and put Louis XVIII on the throne while exiling Napoleon to Elba.

    Napleon was exiled by the allied powers to Elba, an island in the Mediterranean off the coast of Tuscany

    After escaping from his exile on Elba, Napoleon returns to France where he regained power for a hundred days while Louis XVIII fled France. This was ended by the Battle of Waterloo as Napoleon was now exiled to St. Helena.

    This was Napoleon's last battle as well as his Final Defeat. Napoleon's army had been defeated by a combined force composed of many European nations. It was after this battle than Napoleon was sent to exile on St. Helena. This had also ended Napoleon's reign for a hundred days.

    Napoleon was exiled to St. Helena, an island in the Atlantic off the coast of western Africa

    Napoleon dies on St. Helena and his death wa possibly caused by stomach cancer. He was Buried on St. Helena and later his corpse was moved to be buried in France.
