  • The French and Indian War

    The French and Indian War
    British and France fought over American land and the British won. The cause of this war was France and Britain both wanted the Ohio River Valley, Britain to expand empire and France for fur trade. The effect was that it reinforced the colonist nationality and sense of political identity and started all the tension between the British and their colonist. Also pushed France all the way out of North America.
  • Sugar Act

    Sugar Act
    It was the first law ever passed by parliament raising tax revenue in the colonies for Britain. It increased duty on foreign sugar imported from the West Indies. The cause was that Britain had huge debts from the French and Indian War that needed to be paid for to replenish army. The effect was the bitter protest from the colonist and the duties were lowered substantially.
  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
    The colonist now had to taxes on stamps and this was worse off because stamps were used for everything. The cause of this was when the colonist first refused to pay the the duties on the Sugar Act. The effect of this was the forming of the Stamp Act Congress
  • Quartering Act

    Quartering Act
    This act required that certain colonist provide food and quarters for the British troops.The cause was that when the duties were lowered on the Sugar Act that the British still needed to receive revenue for the troops. The effect of this is the Stamp Act.
  • Stamp Act Congress

    Stamp Act Congress
    Twenty-seven delegates for nine colonies met in New York to debate and came up with a statement of their rights. The cause of this was that the colonist wanted to repeal the Stamp Act. The effect of this event was non-importation agreements but also a short victory when parliament finally appealed the Stamp Act.
  • Townshend Act

    Townshend Act
    This was the act of light import duty on glass, lead, paper, paint, and most importantly tea. The cause of this was because Britain was gifted with the man Charles Townshend who wanted to make colonist pay. The effect of this was a lot of smuggling of tea but also the increase of tea in the West Indies.
  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre
    Troops were sent into Boston and one night they opened fire on sixty some colonist without orders and killed or wounded eleven people. The cause of this was some of the officers were drunk and profane characters but also because the colonist were taunting the troops because they were still angry over the death of and eleven year old boy shot during a boycott of British goods. The effect of this was two of the redcoats being found guilty of manslaughter.
  • Committee of Correspondence

    Committee of Correspondence
    An organization thats function was to spread the spirit of resistance and maintain colonial; opposition to British politics through letters and pamphlets. The cause of this was Samuel Adams was a man who lived for politics and decided he wanted to help engineer this rebellion in the colonies. The effect of this was that this evolved directly into the first american congress.
  • The Boston Tea Party

    The Boston Tea Party
    Hundreds of colonist dressed up like Indians to smash open 342 chests of tea and dumped them all into the Boston Harbor. The cause of this was that British lowered prices on tea because colonist stopped buying it and the West Indies was about to bankrupt. The colonist then took this as a way to trick them into paying the taxes but instead they were determined to remain faithful to what they believed in. The effect of this wast intolerable acts such as the Boston Port Act.
  • Quebec Act

    Quebec Act
    The parliament changed the old providence of Quebec was extended southward into the Ohio River Valley. The cause was parliament had been debating what to do with the sixty thousand French subject in Canada for awhile. The effect of this was it upset the the colonist because of the Catholics were now surrounding and near their protestant religion but also still took their land that they had originally fought for in the French and Indian War.
  • First Continental Congress

    First Continental Congress
    This was a meeting in Philadelphia where twelve of the thirteen colonies attended where they ways of redressing colonial grievances. The cause of this was the harshness of the intolerable act that made they need to get a game plan. The effect a draft of the Declaration of rights and the creation of The Association.
  • Lexington and Concord

    Lexington and Concord
    At Lexington shots were fired by British that killed eight minutemen and wounded many more. They moved on to Concord but were pushed back . The cause of this was British wanted to take stores with gunpowder and to bag rebels and because they didn't move fast enough so shots fired. The effect of this was the Revolutionary War!!!
