Red Cedar at Site 3 Timeline

  • Introduction

    Introduction
The purpose of this timeline is to show visible changes in the Red Cedar River over the course of the fall semester of 2011. Decsriptions will be provided for all things visible in the pictures at this site along the river. I hypothesize that as time goes on, we will see leaves change color from green to yellow, red, orange colors and then fall to the ground. Name: Matthew Sylvester

    Red Cedar Timeline

  • September 21, 2011

    September 21, 2011
The leaves on the trees are almost all green. None have started to change colors yet. The water is moving swiftly through this section of the Red Cedar. At the bank of the river there are stones and large rocks easily visible.
  • September 28, 2011

    September 28, 2011
Most of the leaves are green in color; however, some are beginning to change to a yellow-green color. The water is moving swiftly through this area of the red cedar. At the bank there are stones and large rocks.
  • October 5, 2011

    October 5, 2011
Some of the leaves have begun to change color from green to a yellow-green color. There are may trees that are still almost completely green in color. There is some visibility of orange in the leaves of some trees. The water is still moving swiftly through this area of the Red Cedar. At the bank of the river there are stones and large rocks and lots of dead leaves. Some are physically on the bank of the river and some are in the water at the water's edge, near the bank.
  • October 12, 2011

    October 12, 2011
There is still a lot of green visible in most trees, however the leaves continue to change colors. Many have gone from green to a yello-green color and some are reaching an orange color. The velocity of the water at this point has not changed. It is still moving quickly through the rapids. More dead leaves continue to accumulate at the banks of the river, both in the water and on land near the water's edge.
  • October 19, 2011

    October 19, 2011
Again, ost of the leaves on the trees are green in coloration. there are some closer to he water that seem to have a yellow-green coloration, but still are mostly green. The velocity of the river has not changed at all from last week. It is still moving swiftly over the small rapids at this location of the Red Cedar.
The accumulaiton of leaves along the edge of the river is the same as last week. Leaves seem to have been swept or blown from the sidewalks and grassy areas and left to decay.
  • October 26, 2011

    October 26, 2011
The coloration of the leaves this week is much more fall-like. There is still a lot of green, but closer to the river there are a lot of yellow and orange, showing evidence of the changing seasons and colder temperatures.
The velociey of the river has not changed since last week. It is still moving swiftly throught the rapids at this area of the river.
More leaves are accumulating at the banks of the river as trees closer to the river begin to lose their leaves along with all the trees around
  • November 2, 2011

    November 2, 2011
The colors of the leaves are changing slowly from green to an orange-yellow color. The trees to the left side of this picture are still pretty green, while the trees to the right are more yellow.
There continues to be a build up of leaves on the banks of the river.
The velocity of the river remains unchanged.
  • November 9, 2011

    November 9, 2011
There is a significant amount of leaves missing from the trees this week. This could be attributed to the cooler temperatures this week as well as some steady winds. The leaves that remain are mostly orange and yellow in color.
The velocity of the water is unchanged.
There continues to be a continued build up of leaves on the banks of the river.
  • November 16, 2011

    November 16, 2011
There are almost all no leaves left on the trees on the side of the Red Cedar at this site. The temperatures during this past week were much lower and there were very hight winds that could be attributed to the loss of leaves.
The velocity of the river is unchanged.
There continues to be an increased build up of leaves on the sides of the river.
  • November 23, 2011

    November 23, 2011
Almost all of the leaves are off of the trees now. Only a few remain. There are still leaves on bushes and shrubs which grow closer to the ground.
    The river volocity is unchanged.
The build up of leaves along the bank of the river continues to grow.
  • November 30, 2011

    November 30, 2011
There are no leaves remaing on any of the trees in this area. This is most likely due to the very high winds and high snowfall recently.
The river velocity is much higher than it has been over the course of this timeline. the likely cause for this is the melting snow.
I am unable to see a build up of leaves as snow is covering the ground, but it is likely that there are still leaves on the ground left from the build of over the past several weeks.
  • Conclusion

    Conclusion
After analyzing all of the pictures and descriptions from this timeline, I conclude that my hypothesis was confirmed. As time went on, leaves did indeed change color from green to red, orange and yellow and then fall to the ground. This is shown throught the pictures and descriptions provided in this timeline.
