  • Osaka Castle

    Osaka Castle
    Construction on Osaka Castle began in 1583 and was completed in 1597 in Osaka, Japan.
  • Eiffel Tower

    Eiffel Tower
    The 30th of March 1885 Gustave Eiffel presented his plans to be developed, but little progress was made until 1887 due to criticism and concerns of the project. The 26th of January 1887 construction of the wrought iron tower was launched with the help of thousands of construction workers. On March 31st, 1889, the thousands of iron pieces were constructed together to open the Eiffel Tower monument after just 2 years.
  • The Panama Canal

    The Panama Canal
    The start date of the Panama Canal was first started by the French in 1880 and ended in 1893. The construction was taken over by the Americans. The construction of the Panama Canal was officially started on the 11th of November in 1904.
  • Wedding of Princess Elizabeth and Philip, Duke of Edinburgh

    The engagement took place in secret in 1946, and was publically announced on 9 July. 1947. The wedding took place on 20 November, 1947.

    Queen Elizabeth II was crowned on the 2 June, 1953 in Westminster Abbey. Elizabeth ascended to the throne after her father died, at the age of 25 years old.
  • The BT Tower

    Construction of the then called Post Office Tower began in June of 1961 and was completed on July 15, 1964 but didn’t open its doors to the public until October 8, 1965.
  • Concorde

    Concorde
    The signing of a treaty symbolised the beginning of the Concorde project on 29 November, 1962, the Concorde’s first flight was in 1969, and it began flying commercially in 1976.
  • Channel Tunnel

    Channel Tunnel
    Construction on the Channel Tunnel or the ‘Chunnel’ began in 1988 and was successfully completed in 1994. Early ideas for a similar tunnel were talked about at the start of the 1800’s but was not put into action until much later with a failed attempt toward the end of the 19th century.
  • London Eye

    London Eye
    The London Eye was officially opened on the 31st of December in 1999, no passengers were allowed to experience the structure at this stage. On the 1st of February, 2000 the very first passengers stepped foot on the giant ferris wheel but the public was not allowed to attend until the 9 March in 2000.

    The planning of the terminal began in 1988, with construction starting in September 2002, before being opened to the public in 2008.

    William and Kate got Married on the 29th of April 2011. They married at Westminster Abbey in front of 1900 people but the event was also televised across the world.

    The London Olympic games were held from 25th July - 12th August 2012. It was announced in 2005 that the games would be held in London. This was the third time the games were held in the city, the two previous years being 1908 and 1948.
