  • The Proclamation of 1763

    The Proclamation of 1763
    The Proclamation of 1763 was made by the king of England declaring that the colonists couldn't settle to the west of the Appalachian mountains to avoid conflict with the native Americans. The colonist did not like this new rule because they wanted to expand to the west because the soil was starting to go bad due to so much farming, this made them question if they really needed a king.
  • Sugar Act

    Sugar Act
    The Sugar Act halved the duties of foreign made molasses placing taxes on all sugar and molasses being imported into the colonies. It also made it so that smugglers were punished more severely. This made the colonies disagree more and more about how they were being governed by Britain because they had no say in the taxes.
  • Currency Act

    Currency Act
    The Currency Act made it so colonist could not print off and distribute their own paper currency. Britains hopes were that they could gain more power over the colonies this way. this caused the colonists to question the authority of the king even more.
  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
    The Stamp act raised taxes on special paper with a special stamp that made it an official legal document. It raised taxes on any and all legal documents that people needed to do business with costing them a lot of money. the colonist came together and protested the stamp act, one of the biggest group of protesters was the Sons of Liberty.
  • The Quartering Act

    The Quartering Act
    The Quartering act forced colonist to house soldiers at any time whenever asked, no matter the circumstance they had to agree to let however many soldiers into their homes and live there for however long they were told to house them. Not only did they have to house them they also had to feed them and supply them with thinks like beer and fire wood. The colonist (Especially New York) they started to refuse to provide these things to the soldiers that were supposed to stay in their homes.
  • Repeal of Stamp Act

    Repeal of Stamp Act
    After wide spread protest from the stamp act which put taxes on things from legal documents to playing cards, they eventually repealed the stamp act. The colonist were happy the Stamp Act was appealed but in the same day Britain put in effect the Declaratory acts which angered the colinists even more.
  • Boston Massacre

     Boston Massacre
    The Boston Massacre happened when a group of drunk, rowdy colonist started harassing a group of soldiers. it started off with just shouting and insults but then the colonists started to get violent and throw snow balls which escalated even more to rocks and bottles. Once the soldiers started getting pelted with rocks the soldiers fought back and fired on the group. Even though the colonists attacked the soldiers the colonists took this as a direct attack from Britain.
  • Tea Act

    Tea Act
    they raised the taxes on tea coming into the country. this caused the colonies to protest and harass the tea companies in hope to stop them from bringing tea (which was successful in some cases) but the most well know protest was the Boston Tea Party, where protesters threw a shipment of tea in the Boston Harbor
  • The Boston Tea Party

    The Boston Tea Party
    Due to the taxation of tea shipped to the colonies, protests have started but none as big as the Boston Tea Party. A group of protesters dressed up as American Indians take over a British ship and throw tea into the water.
  • Intolerable Act

    Intolerable Act
    The Intolerable Act were established because of the Boston tea party to try to crack down on protesting colonies, the acts that were created were the following: Stamp act, Quebec Act, ect. The colonist felt like this violated the there rights and was a major reason for the revolutionary war.
  • The First Continental Congress

    The First Continental Congress
    12 of the 13 colonies had representatives come together in Philadelphia and discuss the boycotting of all British goods in retaliation to the Intolerable Act.
  • Lexington and Concord

    Lexington and Concord
    General Gage from great Britain sent troops to Concord to take illegal weapons from the colonist militia and try and stop the revolution from starting. Paul Revere and several others rode through the concord warning people about the British attack and they were able to hold the British troops off long enough to move most of the weapons to a new location.
  • Second Continental Congress

    Second Continental Congress
    The Second Continental Congress was a convention of delegates from the thirteen colonies. It was the final attempt to prevent all out war with Britain over there abuse of there power.
  • Townshend Act/duties

    Townshend Act/duties
    The Townshend act/duties imposed duties on glass, lead, paints, paper and tea into the colonies in hope to try to gain more revenue for Britain out of the colonies. The colonist viewed this as abuse of power by Britain. this resulted in the passage of agreements to limit British imports.
  • Battle of Bunker Hill

    Battle of Bunker Hill
    the British army was going to send troops to the top of surrounding hills and set up defenses on it to take control of the Boston Harbor. The colonist found out about there plan before they could do it and sent troops up there to defend the hills before the British army could take them.
