After the German invasion and occupation of Poland, Oskar left Svitavy and moved to Krakow. -

Schindler bought a Jewish-owned enamelware manufacturer and converted its plant to establish the Deutsche Emalwarenfabrik Oskar Schindler (German Enamelware Factory Oskar Schindler), also known as Emalia. -
High times for Emalia
At one point Emalia employed 1,700 workers. At least 1,000 were Jewish forced labors who the Germans had relocated from the Karkow ghetto after its liquidation. -
Relocation
After the SS transferred the Emalia Jews to Plazsow, Oskar opened up and relocated a new plant to Brünnlitz in Moravia exclusively as an armaments factory. -

Changing Lives
Schindler and his wife Emilie moved from Regensburg, Germany to Argentina after the war was over. By 1957 they were permanently separated but not divorced. Oskar then returns back to Germany alone. -

Oskar died in Germany on this day with no riches or fame. -
Honoring Oskar
The United States Memorial council gave Schindler the Medal of Remembrance. His ex wife Emile accepted the medal on his behalf at the Ceremony. -
Schindlers List
Steven Speilburg came out with the film "Schindlers List" after the novel of the same name by Thomas Keneally. They were both based off Schindlers life and works. The movie and novel got popular and critical acclaim.
