    Napoleon was born in Corsica, Italy in 1769. Napoleon’s father was from a noble family, but was poor. Napoleon, had 8 siblings. During those times Corsica was under French control, in his childhood.

    Napoleon’s parents sent him to a Military academy. He was sent to Paris when he was nine years old. Later, when he turned 16 he graduated school and became lieutenant in Artillery and was very prestigious.

    In 1800 Napoleon held a voting for a new constitution. The majority of the people voted in favor of the new constitution, and that gave Napoleon all the power. Napoleon, also passed liberal laws and had a very organized taxing system.

    French voters supported Napoleon, and he became emperor. He crowned himself, to show the people he was more powerful than the church. Since the custom was that the pope crowned the new emperor, he did the opposite to prove his power.

    By 1805 Napoleon controlled a big part of Europe. In the Battle of Trafalgar Napoleon faced Horatio Nelson the British general. He lost his navy because Nelson was very good in warfare at sea, Napoleon could not defeat the Britain's.

    By 1812 Napoleon controlled all of Europe except Britain, Portugal, Sweden and Ottoman Islands. Napoleon, also controlled some countries that were not from Europe. Napoleon had very strong alliances, that were helping his empire grow and grow.

    Napoleon some years back had committed some mistakes, but in 1812 he committed the mistake of all. In 1812 Napoleon and his army 420,000 soldiers marched into Russia. They had many clashes and many men died, some were killed, some because of hunger and later they had to retreat Moscow and only 10,000 soldiers survived.

    Napoleon decided to form a new army to fight. The problem was that his troops were not experienced, and some were ill. In October 1813 the European powers outside of Leipzig defeated Napoleon’s army and the French resistance was falling apart.

    In 1814 Paris was attacked by, Russia, Prussia, Austria, Portugal, Spain, UK, Sweden, Sicily, Sardinia and Germany. He wanted to fight but his generals refused, and he had to surrender his throne. He was exiled and vanished to a tiny Italian island Elba.

    In 1815 Napoleon escaped Elba and returned to France. He was received with a lot of love, and a few days later again became emperor. But later the Prussian and British armies/forces defeated Napoleon and captured him.

    After defeating Napoleon the British exiled him once again. Napoleon was sent to a faraway island, called St. Helena. This island was located in the South Atlantic.

    In this island Napoleon lived 6 years in St. Helena. During that time he wrote his memoirs. Finally, in 1821 he died of a stomach ailment, that possibly was cancer at 51 years old.
