My Journey Through Teacher and Technology

  • Began Teacher and Technology Course

EDUB 4100 began on January 18th at 10:30am, and my journey through incorporating technology into my classroom commenced Created Twitter: https://twitter.com/rlar24
  • Pinteresting

January 20 - I ran through using Pinterest with the class, and received my one bonus mark! I learned how to use GoogleForms to create a survey, and how to create a Weebly for the Web Portfolio assignment Google Forms: https://docs.google.com/forms/

  • EduCreations

Jan 25 - Creating Educreations in class, and learned how to use it for the first time. Another website for my students to use to display their learning! Very helpful, and a good way for students to demonstrate learning in a form other than writing! Educreations: https://www.educreations.com/
  • SAMR/TPACK, PowToon & Rubistar

Jan 27 - Today, I learned about SAMR/TPACK, and then learned how to create a PowToon. PowToon is a fun, yet helpful way for students to display their learning! I also learned how to use Rubistar to help create rubrics! Rubistar is very helpful for creating rubrics in an organized fashion! PowToon: https://www.powtoon.com/

  • Pizza Ordering

In today's class we had the opportunity to use Educreations again, which was a lot of fun! We also looked at how privacy on the online world is near non-existent. This is important for me so that I can remind my students to be careful of what the post online, as it can affect them in the future. I am much more conscious of my posting ever since joining the faculty, and I think it is important to remind my students of this as well.
  • Open Access Resource Centre

Today, we had a guest speaker from the Open Access Resource Centre who discussed the different technologies that are available for students with disabilities. It was really touching to learn about Carly's story and how once she was able to have a voice, her life completely changed! For many students, these technologies finally give them a voice that they did not have before, and finally get recognized as the person they are.
  • Copyright w/ John Finch

Today we learned about copyright issues that many teachers face, and how they can affect our teaching. It was really interesting to hear that some things are acceptable, or that you have limits on what you can do before it becomes a copyright issue. The booklet given to us by John was also very helpful, as it is something I can refer to if needed throughout my career.
  • Moovly! Disability or choice?

Today we discussed the website Moovly, where students have the opportunity to create an animation to display their learning. We also discussed in this class whether it is a disability to not speak in class. I think for some students, it is more just a choice to prove a point in class, while for others it is a disability in terms of the anxiety they feel when speaking in front of others Moovly: [https://www.moovly.com/(http://www.timetoast.com)
  • Survey Monkey/Moovly

In this class we used survey monkey to comment on the course up until this point. Afterwards, we had the opportunity to create a Moovly on a difficult aspect of our curriculum. I chose to make mine on teaching Sexual Education to students and the approaches that need to be used, and the discussions had with parents. I think this would be great for students as well, where groups of students could create a Moovly on a topic in a unit and it could be used a study guide for the class.
  • Sharing Games

Prior to this class, we were asked to try games from different curricular areas that we could use with our students. I find it very helpful to have this games in your back pocket, as sometimes plain old classroom learning just does not cut it. If students finish the work that is initially set for the class, you can ask them to play these games to interact with the material in a really fun way! I think incorporating different games into the classroom is really important!
  • Global Digital Citizenship

We did not have class together today, however we discussed Global Digital Citizenship. I think it is important to discuss with students how the environment is affected through our use of technology. This includes the materials used to create products, recycling, and the amount of energy used.
  • Timelines!

This class, we learned about different timeline websites or applications that can be used for a variety of purposes (including this exam). Timelines could be used in class for personal timelines, or in a history class for students to use as study guides. For example, for a unit on World War I, groups could create timelines on different events of the war, which could then be shared with the entire class as a study guide.
  • Sound Off

This class we learned how to set up and use the sound system. As a physical education teacher, this is very important for me to understand so that I do not lose my voice! I think this could be used in a lot of different ways for the students as well, such as having them teach games and using the sound system.
  • EdPuzzling Me and Virtual Reality

EdPuzzle is a great way to take YouTube videos and make them your own! I think it an awesome way to take great resources and adapt them into what I need for my class. I like the idea of adding questions to the video for students to complete along the way, and to have the ability to clip only certain parts of the video. Also I really enjoyed using the virtual reality and it is more inexpensive than I thought. EdPuzzle: https://edpuzzle.com/
  • Stations and Last Class!

In this class, we had the opportunity to work through a variety of stations. We got to use the virtual reality systems again (I experienced skydiving), and getting to know that SMARTboard better. We also had the opportunity to use the sound system better, and using the website formative to answer some questions. This was a fun way to finish the course and review some of the things we learned through out the term.
  • Final Exam

The final exam for this course (including this question) is a great to summarize the learning I have achieved in this course. Using Timetoast to summarize my journey throughout technology use has been a great way to connect all this learning and have all the things I've learned in the term held in one place.
