Media Consumption

  • Cinema

Cinema was one of the only ways to consume films in the 20th century. 100's of people would gather to see the latest fils at the cinema, many of which would be in black and white.
  • Television

The introduction of television had an impact on the TV industry. Films were made eligible to be displayed on TV and slowly depreciated the amount of people going to the cinema as people could enjoy it from the comfort of their homes
  • Netflix

Netflix is the most popular streaming service. Despite not being popular until 2010. The term 'Netflix and Chill" went tredning causing a mass surge in online streaming. Netflix has impacted the film industry as they release their own films, such as: Bright starring Will Smith. This causes people to stop going to the cinema as the media is available on all devices and not just at the cinema.
  • Youtube

The creation of Youtube has allowed big distribution companies to advertise to specific audiences. It has helped these companies to gain mass amounts of AD revenue, recognition and Box office revenue. Youtube is available on several platforms allowing users to access the content anywhere.
  • Illegal Streaming

Illegal streaming has become more apparent in recent years as people want to see New Releases without paying the hefty fee of visiting the cinema. The increase in demand for HD movies online for free is extremely high and the popularity of illegal streaming is causing losses in millions for cinemas.
  • The future

The future is definitely not at the cinema. The home cinema and streaming service are definitely a more popular choice among film lovers. I believe that the online cinema, films which go from production straight to stream like Netflix Originals will be the future.
