Life in the Revolutionary War

  • Stamp Act

    British attempt to cover the cost of the Seven Years War and the stationing of troops in America led to the cry of "No taxation without representation"
  • Repeal of the Stamp Act

    Parliament repeals the Stamp Act due to rebellion in Britain and America.
  • Townshend Act

    Parliament enacts the Townshend Act, which was a series of taxes to replace the Stamp Act.
  • Boston Massacre

    After Colonist teased a British soldier, the soldier went for help. When the soldier returned with more men, the colonist became angry and continues to taunt the soldiers. After miscommunication British soldiers fired on the Colonist; six Colonists were killed.
  • Boston Tea Party

    Colonist felt they were being taxed unfairly on tea; in result a protest was held due to the unfair tax Parliament had set. Colonist men gathered, dressed in Indian clothing, and armed themselves. At night they went on board the three British ships that had the tea cargo on them. They were to hurt nobody, just to dump the tea in the harbor.
  • "The British are Coming!"

    Two lanterns were lit in the Old North Church to signal that the British were coming and Paul Revere rode through the town yelling "The British are coming!"
  • Battle of Lexington

    Paul Revere's ride led to the Battle of Lexington. The British marched to confiscate munitions at Concord, the town of Lexington would see the first shots and battle of the Revolutionary War.
  • Battle of Concord

    Americans introduced the British to guerrilla warfare
  • Battle of Bunker Hill

    Turning point of the war for America; they had lost this battle but despite of that they had a boost in morale and believed that they could still win the war.
  • Capture of Fort Ticonderoga

    Benedict Arnold joined Ethan Allen & forces to attack the British soldiers at dawn. Coming as a surprise they were able to capture the sleeping soldiers. Although a small victory for America, it gave the Continental Army much-needed artillery.

    This was a major turning point in the war for America. This longstanding against the British proved that Americans can hold strength and fortitude to fight for what they whole heartedly believed in.

    Battles of Trenton and Princeton

    George Washington's army crossed the icy Delaware on Christmas Day. Over the next ten days, his army won the two important battles.
  • Declaration of Independence

    Explained the reasons the American colonies wanted their independence from Great Britain.

    Battle of Saratoga

    Turning point of the war; America is able to convince France to become allies and support the war. During the battle French troops arrive and are able to provide monetary and military support to outlast the British.
  • Treaty of Paris

    Negotiated between U.S. and Great Britain; this ended the Revolutionary War and recognized the American colonies independence.
