    A vocal feminist, John Legend updated the classic Christmas song, “Baby It’s Cold Outside,” which Kelly Clarkson, for the #MeToo movement. He changed some of the lyrics to, “it’s your body, it’s your choice.” Legend has never been one to shy away from speaking up about the wrongdoings on men in Hollywood. The campaign, which originally started in 2015 after multiple allegations of Harvey Weinstein sexually assaulting them. The movement has created a community for women’s voices to be heard.

    John Legend teamed up with the mens brand AXE to help redefine what the word “masculinity." Legend and author and poet, Carlos Andrés Gómez to help mentor high school boys that attend Centennial High School in Columbus, Ohio. Their mission statement is to take away the stigma that men can’t be expressive with their emotions. Legends believes that, “everybody is different and their choices in life shouldn’t be limited by are you a man or a woman,” stated in his interview with Forbes magazine.

    The Pampers x John Legend commercial aired for the first time with his two babies, during last year’s Superbowl commercial. Legend created the song “Stinky Booty Duty”, when his daughter Luna was born as a way to make diaper changing time fun. One of the main reasons Legend partnered with the company was to empower men to be proud of being hands-on dads. This is a legendary step towards equality of gender and parenting rights.

    John Legend appeared on the documentary Surviving R. Kelly, which was released as a series of interviews with his former victims. He was one of the few artists that spoke out regarding the incident to empower the survivors. He lent his voice to provide awareness on the abuse of women, celebrity figure or not. Recalling a Christmas party that he hosted a few years back, the DJ played R. Kelly music. He said to the DJ, “we don’t play him in this house,” according to an interview with We Forum.
