    Ray Tomlinson is credited with the creation of email. The first email was sent in 1971 using ARPANET.

    TN-LCD Patented in US
    Liquid-crystal displays were being patented all around the world but the first US patent for a LCD display based on TN-LCD was in 1971. It was filed by James Ferguson. LCD is a type of display that uses liquid crystals combined with polarizers. This changed the display game because LCD used less power, was less bulky, had sharper images, no distortion and less flicker than its predecessor.

    The VCR was made by Phillips and became available to the consumer market in 1972. The VCR tapes were less bulky and allowed homeowners to watch with more ease as opposed to film reels.

    Floppy Disk Introduced to Market
    While the floppy disk was invented by IBM in 1967, the 8-inch format was brought to market in 1972. The 5 and 1/4 size was introduced in 1976. These disk storages allowed the modern consumer to transfer data between computers, back up and store data.

    A Motorola researcher and executive by the name of Martin Cooper made the first cell phone call in 1973. This invention obviously made a huge difference in communication and set the precedent for our mobile devices today.
