    The first Olympics
    The first Olympic games were dedicated to the gods and spanned a length of 5 days. Only male citizens could participate but unmarried women were allowed to watch. The events that were held within the games were running, wrestling, jumping, equestrian, discus, boxing and pankration.
    Who executed project: The participants will have done their share in executing it however the government or hierarchical system was the driving force behind it.

    The Parthenon

    The Parthenon
    Description: The parthenon was built as a temple in Greece and still stands today. The foundations were made out of limestone, the columns were made out of Pentelic marble, which is a material that was utilized for the first time. Who executed: Iktinos and Kallikrates were the architects and championed by politician Perikles Purpose of deliverables: The Parthenon was built in dedication to the Greek God Athena and to house a monumental statue of her made from gold and ivory

    Panathenaic Stadium

    Panathenaic Stadium
    Description: The construction the stadium was done by Athenian Statesman Lykourgos for the Panathenaic Games, 330 BC. The reconstruction was by Herodes Atticus who was an Athenian senator in Rome. He reconstructed it out of marble for the Panathenaic festival in 143 AD.
    Who Executed: Initially lead by Athenian Statesman Lykourgos, and Eudemus of Plataea. In 139 AD Herodes Atticus paid for its reconstruction.
    Purpose of Deliverable: To build a facility to host the Panathenaic games and festival.

    Our Lady of Tinos
    Description: The church was built to house the icon of the Virgin Mary on the island Tinos in the Aegean sea. This discovery in 1823 was considered a prophecy for the success of the revolution against the Turkish occupation, the church was the first large architectural project for the new Greek state.
    Who Executed: The church operates as a legal entity under the Ministry of National Education and Religious Affairs.
    Purpose of Deliverable: To build a church to house the icon of the Virgin Mary.
  • Old Royal Palace

    Old Royal Palace
    Description - This was the first royal palace in modern Greece, completed in 1843 for King Otto. It has facilitated the Greek Parliament since 1934. The Old Palace is in the center of Athens on Syntagma Square. Who Executed - The Neo-classical design was done by Friedrich von Gärtner with funds donated by Otto's father, King Ludwig I of Bavaria. Purpose of Deliverable - This was the first royal palace in modern Greece for King Otto.

    Plastiras Dam
    Description of the Project: This impressive arched dam is made of concrete construction, serves economic and recreational benefits for local residents. The reservoir prevents flooding of the Tavropos River which used to frequently overwhelms the region. Now, it provides irrigation water, drinking water and hydroelectric power.

  • Lake Polyfytos Bridge

    Lake Polyfytos Bridge
    Description: At 1,372m It is one of the longest bridges in Greece. Construction began in 1972 along with the artificial lake. It is made from prestressed concrete and its structure is categorized as box girder.
    Who Executed: Public Power Corporation bought the rights to build the dam and Hydroelectric Power Station. The bridge itself is part of the National Road Network in Greece.
    Purpose of Deliverable: To create a route for cars and trucks across the newly built lake from Kozani to Servia.

    Description: Oaka Stadium is a full Olympic stadium which opened in September 1982 to the European athletic championships. The stadium was rebuilt to hold the 2004 Olympics. Who executed: The president at the time Konstantinos Karamanlis initiated the project, taxpayers funded the project Purpose of deliverable: A venue to hold athletic and Olympic events.

    A6 Motorway Attiki Odos
    Description: One of the most cutting edge toll motorways in Europe. It has over 32 multi level interchanges and is over 65,000km long. Costing over over 1.8billion to complete. Purpose of deliverable: To provide a safe journey without the need for traffic lights and stops while reducing traffic in central Athens and linking to the Eleftherios Venizelos airport. Who executed: It was financed by many different companies in a DBFOT agreement. The agreement is until 2024 but may be extended.

Eleftherios Venizelos International Airport is now located 26km east of Athens and has the capability for expansion if need be. It features two parallel runways passenger and cargo terminals, car parks, engineering hangars, a hotel, and a retail complex

    Rio–Antirrio Bridge
    Description: The Rion-Antirion Bridge, located in the Gulf of Corinth, is a link between Peloponnesus and Continental Greece. It is a multi-span, cable stay bridge with a continuous suspended deck of 2.252km.
    Who Executed: The bridge cost about €839 million, and was funded by the Hellenic Ministry of Environment, Physical Planning and Public Works
    Purpose of Deliverable: To improve access to the Peloponnese peninsula, connecting Rion and Antirion for the 2004 Olympic games in Athens.

Who executed- The non profit organisation NOESIS Purpose of deliverable- To provide a building to the public to spread the knowledge of technology and science.

    Description: The construction the museum started due to the discovery of new artifacts that exceeded the capacity of the old museum. Located in the historic of Makryianni district, the Museum is less than 1,000 feet from the Parthenon. The top-floor Parthenon Gallery offers a 360-degree view of the Acropolis and Athens.
    Who Executed: Ministry of Culture and Sports Greece
    Purpose of Deliverable: To build a facility to house the new found artifacts along with the Parthenon Marbles held in the UK.

    Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Centre
    Description: The Stavros Niarchos Cultural Centre is located in Kallithea, 4 km south of central Athens. An important cultural and educational project, the site will comprise the National Library of Greece and the Greek National Opera in a landscaped park.
    Who Executed: The project was made possible by a $944 million donation from the Stavros Niarchos Foundation.
    Purpose of Deliverable:To build a new cultural center to promote education and to create a unique outdoor space usable for the public.
