Timeline of Georgia 1789-1840

  • Yazoo land sale

    Legislators took bribes to illegally sell land to four companies they also sold the land for more than it was worth, but as a result it costed the government 4.3 million to buy the land back. Though it did expand Georgia's land.
  • Cotton gin

    The cotton gin was invented by Eli Whitney it was created to allow cotton seeds to be removed from fibers quicker than done by hand, and due to the creation of the cotton gin cotton production increased but slaves did also which eventually led to Georgia having the most slaves and slave holders out of the lower south.
  • Land lotteries

    Land lotteries were basically giving away unknown terrain land to orphans,women,widows,and married men with families, because of these land lotteries it made it possible for everyone in Georgia to have the chance to get there out land so this affected Georgia drastically.
  • Andrew jackson

    He ignored the worcester v georiga ruling and passed the indian removal act, and because of jacson this enabled him to forcibly move natives from Georiga to Oklahome which was later on known as the Trail Of
  • Sequoyah

    Created a written language for the natives, and it helped them communicate better and also do things to help themselves rather than depending on others, and the language made it possible for the natives to plan and organize a way to fight against the removal.
  • John Ross

    He wrote a constitution, which would create laws for the natives and make them a separate nation from the U.S., protecting them from removal, and thanks to John Ross the U.S. could not remove natives because they were no longer considered U.S ctizens.
  • Dahlonega Gold Rush

    Gold was found in Dahlonega and people rushed to settle the land to get it. This lead to the natives being forced to move northwestward to indian territory, but with the long travel and harsh weather 1/5 of the entire cherokee population died!
  • Railroad

    Railroads were a better way to transport cotton, so as a result of railroads more town were created which led to a growth in population, and trading also improved.
