Ian Hacking was born February 18th, 1936. Born in Vancouver of British Columbia, Hacking grew to become one of science most influential philosopher of all time. Throughout his career, he achieved many things to include the Killam Prize, Holberg Prize, and Balzan Prize. -

Ian MacDougall Hacking Education
Ian Hacking would acquire his BA in mathematics and physics at University of British Columbia. This would soon lead his journey to him receiving his BA (1958), MA, and Ph. D in Moral Science at Cambridge University (1962). During his studies in 1960, he won the Smith’s Prize in Mathematics and Gregg Bury Prize in Theology. This was only the beginning. -

Shortly after receiving his Ph. D. he went on to teach philosophy. Some of these schools include Cambridge, Oxford, Stanford, and more. During the course of career he published "The Logic of Statistical Inference (1965)" and "The Emergence of Probability .(1975)". These books made an impact of the philosophy of science. -
Entity Realism
Hackings would soon develop the Entity Realism Theory. According to philpapers.org, entity realism is “form of selective scientific realism, claiming that our causal interaction with unobservable entities, such as DNA molecules and atoms, justifies our belief in the existence of unobservable entities.” Attached will be a link to a Youtube video that break down entity realism. It's safe to say his contributions to the philosophy of science made a significant impact.
