  • Beginning

    1965 A city welcomes it's first west valley community college. This was the second community college formed in the Maricopa district. The first semester enrolled 1974 students studying the liberal arts. The early campus was located where the Glendale Public library is at now.
  • Dedication & Expansion

    By September 1966 GCC moved to 147 acre campus. October of '66 there was an official dedication ceremony, many dignitaries attended. Palm trees lined the central corridor of the campus. This 147 acre campus had two icons that are still used in the logo. There was Spanish influence in the early architecture.
  • Female Dean

    In 1975 the college appointed the first female dean Bertha Landrum the college's Dean of Instruction. Many women had been presidents since this time, but Landrum was the first female dean of instruction hired across the entire state of Arizona.2.
  • Growth Exploding

    throughout the 1980s and 1990s the population in Glendale exploded and increased the need for higher education at an affordable price.
  • Computers and GCC

    GCC brought computers onto campus, this linked together GCC with the Internet and World Wide Web. GCC reached the community and starting offering events, speakers, and cultural programming that signified its place as an institution of learning and culture throughout the community.
  • Take Two

    The north campus of GCC was opened in 2000. The population explosion during the previous twenty years necessitated the growth and need for a second campus. This campus offers many programs like the main campus, although the Nursing program is housed only on the main campus on Dunlap. There are also additional classes at NAUs North Valley Campus, Valley Vista High School and Communiversity in Surprise.
  • Honoring Veterans

    Veterans were honored at GCC in November 2015 on Veterans day. Included in the celebrations were presentations from Director of Veterans affairs, Code talkers, a Native American Feather Blessing,
    the Marine Corps League Color Guard and a yellow ribbon cutting ceremony.
