    In the mid 1950’s a dutch man named Willem Kolf invented the first ever artificial heart. This artificial heart was only used in animals. This device was also air-driven and had two pumps. Dr. Jarvick used his principles on the Jarvick 7. The dog lasted 90 minutes on Kolff’s machine.

    On December 2nd a group of scientists from Massachusetts invented the first artificial heart used on a human. The daring recipient of this first artificial heart was Barney Clark. It was disk shaped and had two pumps. This was a huge leap for the medical industry. This device was called the Jarvik 7 after the Dr. Jarvick.
