Israel is Independent
Jewish leaders declared the birth of the democratic State of Israel on May 14, 1948. Ben Gurion later became Israel's first prime minister. -
First Arab-Israeli war
The day after Israel declared their independence, Israel was attacked by Egypt, Syria, Lebanon, Transjordan and Iraq. Their was a massive refugee problem after the war. -
Arabs living under Israel
Many Palestinian Arabs lived under Israeli control. Israel was taking control over the Palestinian area and it rose tension again. -
Israel's retreat
Israeli troops left Gaza and turned it over to the Palestinians in 2005. Hamas won control over Palestine and their was tension because he was viewed as a terrorist.
