    Each company was ready, however, Massine had to write three new enormous ballets and Basil was having trouble replacing Massine. He ended up with David Lichine and started the rivalry between Masine and Lichine. Both companies debut their shows in London but Sol Hurok needed another american tour and chose Massine's company with Basil's company went on an Australian tour.

    Panic struck and the dancers fled to America by boat where under a lot of stress form the war, the dancers were expected to preform after months of not practicing or technique class.

    Hurok took responsibility for finding work for both companies but after having many conflicts with Basil declares The Original Ballet Russe, Hurok cut off the Original Ballet Russe and they left America and due to working conditions with the war were very poor and exhausted. Basil began to talk to Hurok about taking the company back, and upon agreeing had to leave the company again after seeing how unfit they were to tour.
