    Darius 1 invades Greece

    Darius the first's great invasion in Greece happened sometime during January of 492 B.C. He wanted to conquer Greece more than ever at the time. The Persians wanted more and more land. They wanted to defeat the Greeks because they wanted to punish the Athens for their support of the Ionian colonies' for their revolt against Persia.

    Greeks Defeat Persians at Marathon

    The Greeks had a great victory and defeated the Persians. With only 192 Greeks killed, 6,400 Persians died. Once they won there was no doubt that the Greek army was proud to march back into the city defending the Athens. When the Greeks won they gained many advantages. Many legends grew out of their victory.

    Battle of Thermopylae

    Battle of Thermopylae
    The battle of Thermopylae was the first battle between the Persians and the Greeks during the Persian Invasion. The Greek force was extremely small but they were excessively determined to make a stand against the Persian army. Both the, Greeks and the Persians had very individualized plans to defeat the other team.

    Battle of Salamis

    The Naval battle of Salamis was a battle between the Persians and the Greeks. This great naval battle was fought on September 480 BC. The Greek Navy ended up coming out on top. The Persian force was lead by the Persian king, Xerxes. Themistocles commanded the Greeks and came up with their great plans that lead them to victory.

    Thirty years peace between Argos and Sparta begins

    After the Persian War, Athens and Sparta had agreed to a Thirty Year Peace. They didn't want to fight each other while they were trying to rejuvenate from the harsh Persian War.During this time, Athens became powerful and wealthy and the Athenians empire grew under the leadership of Pericles. Spartas begn to get extremely jealous. After they ended up on seperate sides and had conflict. They then declared war on the Athens.

    Athens invaded Megara

    One reason that the Athens invaded Megara was because Megara was an ally of the Athens but then sided against them during the Peloponnesian War. As a result of this, the Athens seized the port of Megara. The Megarians got upset so they recaptured Nisaea. The Athenians ended up responding by sending out a very powerful army. The Megarians decided to come back by also sending out a very powerful army. The Athenians came out with a victory on the land battle.

    End of the Peloponnesian War

    The war was fought by Sparta and Athens. The war was won by Sparta. They ended up being the number one city-state for a short amount of time. Asia Minor and Sicily wanted to begin yet another conflict starting the Corinthian War. The end result of this was the King's Peace. Some say the real winner of The Peloponnesian War was Persia.
