Gutenberg's Printing Presslink to sourceAround about 1440 a German goldsmith named Johannes Gutenberg developed a printing method that involved arranging reusable metal letter blocks. Previously to this duplicating material in Europe would involve hand carving a wooden printing block, or copying the material out by hand which could be very time consuming.
