    Adolf Hitler was born on April 20, 1889, he was born in Austria. His parents were Klara Hitler and Alois Hitler.
  • Edmund Hitler Dies

    Edmund Hitler Dies
    One day in February, Hitler's brother, Edmund, gets infected with measils and dies. This makes Hitler so depressed and wanting to mourn, but the worst part is that they buried his brother in the cemetary beside their house.

    On this day, Hitler's dad died, but that did not really affect Hitler because he hated his father.

    Archduke Franz Ferdinand is Assassinated
    Ferdinand is assassinated in Sarajevo, Yugoslavia. This is important because it basically started the conflict between Europe and Germany, or World War One.

    Concentration Camps
    Concentration camps played a huge role WW2, they were where they sent Jews to do labor for the army, or to die. They would starve the people in the camps and then make them work long hard days. If you were not sent to a labor camp you were sent a to death camp, where the killed you normally in gas chambers. The concentration camps were established in 1933.

    Hindenburg was the president before Adolf Hitler became it, but soon after he died and lost his power, Hitler changed himself from president to Führer.

    The Nuremberg Laws were statues that had what a Jew could and could not do, shortly after Hitler created laws to protect German blood and their honor.

    The Axis countries who were in an alliance were Japan, Germany, and Italy. All of these countries recognized the Nazi power and domination.

    The Allied power was led by United Kingdom, the U.S., France, and the Soviet Union, they were the ones trying to defeat Germany.

    On this day the German government required all Jews to were white armbands with the star of david on it, so all of the civilians and troops could ifdentiy the jews.

    Attack on Pearl Harbor
    On this day the Japanese army launched a surprise attack on U.S. troops on an aircraft carrier, in Hawaii. 2,400 soldiers were killed, and 1,200 were injured, this event made the U.S. extremely mad and almost immediately declared war on Japan and the entered WW2.

    Righteous Gentiles were non-jews who went and gave aid to the Jews in the holocaust. They risked their lives to save people they had never met in their life. One story is when a family escaped from the Siemiatycze Ghetto and went to hide in the woods. It turns out there was a farm not far away from where they were hiding and the family that owned the farm took them in. Thye hid them in bunkers and eventually hid 7 Jews in a numbe rof bunkers.

    Allied powers were starting to advance into Germany and the Nazis did not want to have any evidence of the camps so they decided to start burning the camps and also killing all of the people. Thye did not want anyone knowing or have evidence of what they did.
  • Death Marches

    The Allied forces were gaining land quickly and pushing Nazi soldiers back into their own land, so the Nazis had to evacuate the camps. Thye could not get them out fast enough by train, so they put them out in the dead cold, and told them to march for as long as they could. If they could not walk or travel anymore, they would die right there. They say it was so cold your fingers could snap off like twigs.

    The Allies Come Across Auschwitz
    Around this time the Soviet forces had marched pretty far into Poland and Germany and finally got to Auschwitz, the largest killing camp for Jews in the whole world. Before they had got there, though, the Nazis had made most of the prisoners walk west in "death marches" so when the Soviets got there, there were only a couple thousand prisoners alive. They discovered hundreds of thousands of mens suits, 800,00 women's outfits, and 14,000 pounds of human hair.

    On this day Hitler was in his command bunker when Soviet forces were nearing him in Berlin, he committed suicide by shooting himself. His wife also committed suicide by cyanide.

    On this day the German army and all of it's soldiers surrendered after Hitler committed suicide and the Allied forces took over Berlin.

    On this day, some of the Nazi soldiers were put into trial for the war crimes they committed, these trials took place in Nuremberg, Germany. There were judges from may countries deciding their punishment. 12 major Nazi soldiers were called during that time.
  • The Holocaust Museum is Established

    The Holocaust Museum is Established
    On this day, President Jimmy Carter created the President's Commission on the Holocaust. Then in 1980 the United Sates Congress voted for it to be changed to the United Sates Holocaust Museum Council.
