    Christopher Latham Sholes
    The typewriter was invented by Christopher Latham Sholes. There had been numerous attempts at trying to invent the typewriter before this, but he was the first person to do it sucessfully. It was invented in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in July of 1867. The typewriter was invented to make writing easier and more efficient. It was manufactured by a sewing machine department and actually resembled a sewing machine.

    Sylvester H. Roper
    Sylvester H. Roper invented the first motorcycle. The first models of this motorcycle were run on coal. They were invented to be able to drive faster on something that is the same model as a bicycle, even though they could only go 12 mph. It was built in 1868 in Roxbury, Massachusetts.

    The Escalator
    Jesse W Reno invented the first working escalator. When it was first invented, it was called an "incline elevator". It was invented in 1891 but there were attempts to make the escalator before Reno, but his was the first to be successful. It was built and first used in New York City. They were put where an elevator would be impractical to use. The idea came from the thought of "revolving stairs".

    The Vacuum Cleaner
    The vacuum cleaner was invented by John S. Thurman in 1899 in St. Louis, Missouri. Thurman made a door to door cleaning service with his new invention. He drove around in a horse drawn carriage cleaning people's carpets for $4 (which was a lot of money then). Thurman's vacuum was a the first vacuum and it was run on gas, the first motorized vacuum wasn't invented until 1901 in England.
