    Thomas Edison invented the lightbulb, which illuminated the dark better than candles. It made night work safer and productive because they could see more clearly than with candle light.

    Broker T. Washington created a school for African Americans, so that they could be educated even though it was uncommon.

  • President James Garfield was Shot

    President Garfield was shot by Charles Guiteau four months into his presidency because Garfield didn't thank Guiteau for his work on his presidential campaign.

  • Chinese Exclusion Act

    President Chester A. Arthur signed an act that prevented chinese immigrant workers coming into the United States. The act prevented chinese immigration for ten years.

  • Statue of Liberty

    President Grover Cleveland unveils the Statue of Liberty, which was a gift from France. The statue was to honor the alliance that the two countries had, celebrate the ending of slavery in the United States, and a symbol of freedom,

  • Dawes General Allotment Act

    The act redistributed Native American land back to the Native American families and individuals to advocate for independence and a farming life style for the Native Americans

  • 23rd President of the United States

    Benjamin Harrison won the election against Grover Cleveland, and was elected the 23rd President of the United States. Harrison created the reserves for national forest, and supported the McKinley Tariff Act of 1890.

  • 24th President of the United States

    Grover Cleveland won the election against Benjamin Harrison, and became the 24th president of the United States. That was his second term, but it wasn't consecutive because Harrison beat Cleveland out previously. Cleveland was very against high tariffs, and inflation.
