    Alexander Graham Bell was the first to found and invent the telephone. In 1877 he had founded the Bell telephone company. His successes came through sound and because of his deaf family he made expeiments with sounds.

  • Alaska is purchased from Russia

    Alaska is purchased from Russia
    The United States purchased Alaska from Russia for 7.2 million dollars. The treaty with Russia was negotiated and signed by Secretary of state William Seward and Russian minister to the United States Edouard de Stoeckle. This was all during the Cold War.

    Completion of the transcontinental railroads
    The Transcontinental Railroad was the first continuous railroad line across the United States and opened for through traffic. It had opened in 1869. Also with the trans continental railroads President Leland Stanford ceremonially drove the gold "Last Spike" at Promontory Summit.

    John D Rockefeller is the founder of Standard Oil Company and became one of the worlds wealthiest men. He was even the richest at one point with a net worth of $340,000,000,000. After that he invested in a Clevelend, Ohio refinery.

    Thomas Edison is a famous self educated inventor. he is famous for inventing the light bulb in 1880. He also invented many other inventions such as mass power generator.

    The Chinese Exclusion Act was a law signed by president Chester A. Arther in 1882. This act prohibited all Chinese immigration labor. It also excluded Chinese nationals for eligibility for United States citizenship.

    Samual Gompers was a labor union leader. He was in fact the orginizations president from 1886 to 1894. The knights of labor formed the AFL.

    The Sherman antitrust act was the first federal act that outlawed monopolistic business practices. Several states passed similar laws to this one but they were limited to intrastate businesses. This act was passed when Benjamin Harrison.

    Ellis island originally opened as an immigration station. Ellis island actually closed on 1954. Also it was burned down in 1897.

    The homestead strike happened in Pennsylvania 1892 and it was with Carnegie workers and the company. They went against the worlds strongest trade union. All nine strikers and 7 pinkertons were killed.
