  • Joseph Black

He explored properties of gases produced in reactions. He found that limestone could be heated to get a gas that he called fixed air. The fixed air was denser than normal air, it did not support flame or animal life.
  • Antoine Lavoisier

Lavoisier was a theoretical chemist who discovered no new substances but took the work of Black, Priestly and Cavendish and gave a correct explanation of their experiments. Lavoisier made the determination the Water and Air were not elements themselves but were made up of elements.
  • Dmitri Mendeleev

he had suggested in 1860s that the elements display periodicity. But there wasent much room for undiscovered elements.
  • John Newlands

He was the first person to devise a Periodic Table. the elements were aranged in order of the atomic weights.
  • William Ramsay

He found a whole new group on the periodic table variously called nobal gases. In the 19th century John William Strutten help him.
  • Henry Moseley

The British physicist, Henry Moseley is known for his establishment of scientific basis of the Periodic Table of the Elements by sorting chemical elements in the order of their atomic numbers. In his short career, he contributed a lot towards the science of physics through his research.
  • Glenn Seaborg

He won the nobel prize in 1951 for "discoveries in the chemistry of the transuranium elements". He contributed to the discovery and isolation of the 10 elements after uranium in the periodic table that are also called the 'actinoid series'. Element number 106 has been names 'Seaborgium' in his honour.
