    zacharies Janssen

    In 1595 Janssen invented the comound lens and the single lens microscope, to help people with poor eyesight. He invented the telescope in 1608. From 1613-1619 he was tried for counterfeiting coins.
  • Anthonie van Leewenhoek

    Leewaenhoek was the first microbiologist. Also he was the first to describe single celled organisms. His main discoveries are infusoria, bacteria, vacuole and the pattern of muscle fibers.
  • Robert Hooke

    Hooke studied gravitation and timekeeping. He created the way to get lonitude. In 1660 he discovred the lw of elasticity. Also in 1665 he published a book called micrographia that described the observations he made with the microscope.
  • Carl Linnaeus

    He was a swedish botanist, physician and a zoologist. At uppsala university he gave lectures in botany. In 1735 he left for the netherlands to get his doctoral degree and became a doctor at age 28.
  • Jean Lamarck

    He was a soldier and a botanist. He created speical terms for the different scinces such as chemistry, meteorology, geology, botany and zoology. He fought in the pomperian war. Also he construded the framework of evolution.
  • Matthias Schleiden

    Schleiden was born in Hamburg where he studied law. He perferred to study plant structure. At the university of Jena he was a perfessor of botany. He was first to recognize the importance of the cell nuleus.

    He is best know for creating the evolutionary theory. He had 10 children. Also he published many books
  • Theodor Schwann

    He was a german physiologist. His main contributions to science are the development of the cell theory, the discovery of schwann cells, the study of pepsin, the discovery of the nature of yeast and the term metabolism.He observed cells under nerve fibers now called schwann cells.
  • Rudolf Virchow

    Virchow was a german doctor, know for his advancement in public health. He had great faith that animal experimentation could detirmine causes of disease and the effects of drugs. He was the first to recognize leukemia cells.
  • Gregor Mandel

    He was the father of modern genetics. He mainly focused on plants. He studied the 7 traits of pea plants.
