    in 1703 slaves were digging irrigation ditches so sugar cane (a commodity crop) could grow to make this country sell more they would later need this money for their debt. this also brought up slave work by a lot. Causing more to think about rebellion and fighting back

    In 1789 the slaves started thinking about rebellion as many of them were outnumbering their masters making it an easy fight.

    In the early 1790s, a man (who was a freed slave) Toussaint Louverture became known as general-governor for life and was soon a leader of the revolution he was known for his forces having an armistice Or peace treaty.

    The Haitian people were getting angry because many people were taken captive and held as slaves and in May 1791 the Europeans tried to take a wealthy African American from their home even though a law was passed that the wealthy were not slaves, and this sparked a TWO-month long conflict.

    In 1791 The slaves finally depicted their uprising again giving birth to another reason to abolish slavery every time this happened it got more violent this is the 2nd or 3rd battle in 1791

    After this scuffle in the early 1790s, thousands of others rose to the fight and then the rebellion started than french commissioner “Léger-Félicité Sonthonax” told any slave joining his army would then be free.

    In 1803 the French were defeated at the battle of Vertières
    They were soon crushed due to lack of troops from yellow fever deaths.

    In May 1802 the French broke the armistice and took Charles leceroc prisoner he died April 7, 1803, this wasn't the first time the French had broke a treaty either.

    In 1825 The Haitians were forced to pay 150 MILLION gold francs to get houses repaired rebuilt and recreated for the French

    In 1947 the people of Haiti were now finished paying off their debt and there was no slavery so they were now free from their debts chains and masters
