  • Truman Doctrine

    Truman asked for $4 million in aid for Greece & Turkey.
  • Marshall Plan

    General George C. Marshall believed that communism was successful in countries with economic problems. Provided $13 million to rebuild war-torn Europe.
  • Policy of Containment

    The split in Europe between the US & Soviets had become a fact of life. Geroge Kennan argued for a policy of containment.
  • Western Unification

    The foreign minsters of the four occupying powers met repeatedly in an attempt to arrive at a final peace treaty with Germany but had little success. By February 1948, Great Britain, France, and the United States were making plans to unify the threee Western sections of Germany (and Berlin) and create a West German government.

    The Soviet Union responed to the Marshall Plan with the Council for Mutual Economic Assistance. It failed though because the Soviet was not able to provide much financial aid.
