1492 he sailed the ocean blue. He stared The Columbian Exchange. The process involved the transfer of plants, animals, and diseases between the Americas, Europe, Africa, and Asia. The effect was there is more food, plants and animals. The Columbian Exchange was his long lasting achievement. -

Hernan Cortes
In 1519 Cortes establishes the first Spanish settlement on the American mainland. After landing the Spanish learned about the powerful and wealthy Aztec empire. Which was led by Motezuma 2. He decided to find and take Motezuma and sank his ships so his soldiers couldn't retreat. An idian women named Malintzin helped. Cortes. The Aztecs had large amounts of gold, presious gems, and silver. Even though Motezuma gave Cortes peace offerings it wasn't enough. Fighting took action. Cortes won. -

Alonzo Alvarez de Pineda
Him and his crew were the first Europeans to see the Texas Coast. Also, he was the first European to map he Texas Gulf Coast. In 1519 he sailed with a fleet from Jamacia into the Gulf of Mexico. Was to explore the land between Flordia and Mexico. Pineda established a colony by a large river called the Panueo. He sent ships back to Jamacia. When they returned they found settlers had been killed in Indiand attacks. -

Panfilo de Narvaez
In 1527 Narvaez led a voyage to the Gulf of Mexico. He dreamed of finding riches. The expedition included 5 ships with some 600 soldiers, plus horses. The American Indians described Alpalachee a northern region that was rich in gold. Naraez sent the ships to harbor, while him and 300 soldiers set off to Alpalchee. They became lost , weak, and out of food. Many were wounded or killed. When the explorers neared shore the ships weren't there. The stranded explorers ate their horses to survive. -

Alvar Nunez Cabeza de Vaca
Vaca said " It became spear that we could only leave this terrible land only by dying." The spa rids used whatever material they could find to build Serrano small slimy boats. After a month they set sail but came across a huge storm. Three of the boats plus Naraveaz washed up on the Texas Coast. But he disappeared when his poorly anchored boat washed out to sea.About 80 explorers survived. The Karankwa took them in. This was the begging of the age Age of Contact in Texas. -

Francisco Vasquez de Coronado
Coronado's goal was to conquer Cibola and gain its treasure. When they reached the that Fray Marcos had seen and said the city was made of gold, he found a force of Zuni Indians waiting. The Spaniards were prepared and soon defeated the Zuni. Coronado was disappointed but heard of a city called Quivira that was full of gold. But they found nothing. They broke into a fight. Also he traveled onto the flatlands of the Texas Panhandle. -
Juan Onate
King Philip 2 of Spain wanted to control expanding settlement. He granted Juan Onate the right to settle and govern the colony. The colony he established is New Mexico. He led more than 500 colonists north across the Chihuanhuan Desert. He also decided to explore the northeast toward Quivira. In 1601 Onate set out across the Texas Panhandle, but he failed at finding gold. -
Rene Robert Cavelier Sieur de La Salle
In 1682 La Salle expanded France's empire.La Salle returned to France asking his king for permission to establish a a settlement near the rivers (Mississippi) mouth. They king supported him. La Salle expedition left France in 1684 with 4 ships and 300 soldiers and settlers. A year later they built a settlement called Fort St. Louis. They decided to go to Canada. Tension mounted and they started arguing. Salle own soldier murederd him.......La Salle expedition ended in disaster. -
