Tech Advancements Throughout My History

  • Overhead Projectors

    Overhead Projectors
Overhead projectors began to be widely used in schools and businesses in the late 1950s and early 1960s. They were the first form of "projection" and a tool for teachers to be able to display their notes and information to the entire classroom. Overhead projectors were used all throughout my elementary, middle and high school careers; they were even used in a few college classes, as well.
  • TI Graphing Calculator

    TI Graphing Calculator
In 1990, Texas Instrument created the first graphing calculator, the TI-81. In the years to follow, TI calculator became more and more popular in the classroom and eventually an essential learning tool in math education. TI calculators made it possible to see graphs without hand mapping them out. TI graphing calculators were used when I was mostly in middle school, high school and college. Throughout the years, I have gotten to watch the progression of the devices.
  • Smart Boards

    Smart Boards
In 1991 SMART boards were introduced and in 2010 Smart introduced the lower-cost SMART board 400 series interactive whiteboard for the school systems. SMART boards were the first interactive whiteboard to provide touch control of computer applications and the ability to write over standard Microsoft Windows applications. It was significant in allowing teachers to save their notes and the additional notes provided by the class. I used a SMART boards in high school and college.
  • USB Flash Drives

    USB Flash Drives
USB flash drives were introduced to replace the need for floppy disks or CDs. They are used for storage, data back-up and transfer of computer files. Today, USB flash drives store more information then floppy disks or CDs. When I was in elementary school, I was taught how to save on a floppy disk, in middle school we were taught about CDs, and then in high school and college I used USB flash drives. I have watched how this item has been advanced with more storage capability.
  • iPad

    iPad
The iPad was the first compact device to preform full Internet functions such as web-browsing and emailing and other functions such as games, reference, GPS navigation, social networking, shoot video, take photos, play music etc. I remember iPad's being release and they were first implemented into some of my college classes. Today, in some schools all students have them.
