  • Board of ED. of Hendrick Hudson Central School Dist., Westchester County v. Rowley

Board of ED. of Hendrick Hudson Central School Dist., Westchester County v. Rowley
A deaf students parents feel she would benefit more in school with a interpreter, even though she is doing extremely well with the help she is provided. The school is against providing her an interpreter since she is doing better than most hearing students.
District court rules in favor of the Rowley's, but Supreme Court rules that the school is not liable to provide an interpreter if they find the student is doing well.
Laws need to be adjusted. This case shows why we need to fight.
  • PARC v. Commonwealth of Pennsylvania

     PARC v. Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
The Commonwealth of PA did not want special needs children in public schools. Pennsylvania ARC for Retarded Children (PARC) wanted special needs children to be allowed free appropriate public education (FAPE).
PARC won the case. Children were to be given what was needed for proper education in public schools.
This case brought more similar cases throughout the U.S. More special needs students were provided free appropriate public educations.

  • Irving Independent School District v. Tatro

Irving Independent School District v. Tatro
The Tatro's filed an action against the Texas Board of Education to provide their 3 year old daughter with a CIC (clean intermittent cauterization) every 3-4 hours per day. The school district objected as it was not on the IEP and a medical need.
The court ruled it was a medical need that fell under the EHA. The school was permitted to provide the CIC.
The case pushes for medical requirements. These are needed for some to function in school and should be provided.
