13th amendment ratified
This freed all slaves in America. Although blacks in America were now free, they did not have any land,money or have a place to go. Due to this white southerners tried to take advantage of these newly freed blacks to try to go back to a similar slave state. -
Tennessee added back to Union
Tennessee ratified the 14th Amendment, because of this Tennessee became the only state during Reconstruction that did not have an appointed military governor. -
KKK created
Formed in Tennessee in 1866, it was considered a political group.
The KKK took effect throughout reconstruction starting the organizations would take action mostly in the north, burning schools, attacking teachers and beat and killed freedmen. -
Grant election
It was a very close election, this showed the power of the democrats in the south. -

15th amendment ratified
African American males could now vote. African Americans could also be elected into various positions. Was supposed to give them a political voice instead of just citizenship but Southern states found ways around the amendment. -
Ku Klux Klan Act
The act made racial hate groups illegal. Later it was stuck down in the supreme court for being unconstitutional because of the first amendment. -
Panic of 1873
Caused the Northerners to be distracted away from the southerners racism.
