Top Five Significant Events in Education
All of these events led to how our education system is and works today. -
National School Lunch Act
This federal law helped numerous children receive a meal. This helps education, because if a child is concerned about where their next meal is coming from they aren't focusing on education. This also helps parents know that their children are getting lunch without them having to worry about affording the meal. It is a way the schools can help the kids they love and try to teach everyday. -
Brown v. Board of Education
This is significant in our educational history, because it truly changed the course of our countries history. For the first time we were educating society as a whole and looking at everyone as equal. This allowed people to learn from other diverse backgrounds that made society better as a whole. In todays schools, we embrace different backgrounds as much as we can and it all started with Brown v. Board of Education. -
National Defense Educational Act
This act affected education greatly. It shifted major focus on language arts onto science and math. Science and math became a bigger part in curriculum and still is a major factor in schools. Like when this was implemented students can earn scholarships for going into these areas of studies. Science and math are in curriculum everywhere and included as a requirement for general studies. -
Title Nine
Title nine is important in our educational history, because it gave women and young girls the same equal rights of men and young boys. Girls get the same privileges in all areas that boys were getting an advantage in just, because of their gender. It gave an equal opportunity for every student in schools. Girl no longer will need to feel underprivileged and can be themselves. This allows them to thrive in the school setting, which helps overall for everyone working in the schools. -
Public Law 94-142; IDEA
This law truly gave children with disabilities a chance at life. It gave them a chance at a future. This law was so significant and still is, because special education is part of an everyday school for children now. Unlike before the law, we can now embrace the difference and learn from them collectively. As well as, these students earn an education and than could possibly become apart of society. They can begin working and supporting themselves in some circumstances.
