    1914-1918
    WW1 began in 1914 and ended in 1918. During the war, Hitler joined the German army and was awarded the Iron Cross. He was awarded many other medals which showed his military skills which eventually aided his rise to power.

    After the war, Hitler joined a small political group. He shared his ideas of overturning the Treaty of Versailles. His success as an organizer and speaker led him to be chosen as the leader of the Nazi party.

    1923-1924

    After he gets out of prison, he revives the Nazi Party. Most people ignored him until the Great Depression, then the economy collapsed, and finally a Civil unrest broke out. In desperation, Germans turned to him for help. This helped him gain more power because now everyone listened to him and would do anything for him.

    Nov. 2-3, 1923

    Hitler and the Nazis made a plan to seize power in Munich, he failed and was sentenced to jail for only 5 years. In jail he wrote a book about his beliefs and his goals for Germany.

    By 1932, the Nazi party was the largest political party. This put him in a very high position with more power since he was the leader of the Nazi group.

    Hitler was named Chancellor giving him power legally by President Paul van Hindenburg.
  • Feb 1933

    Hitler won the parliamentary majority because when the Reichstag building was set on fire, the Nazis blamed Communists. This made the Communists fearful which then gave the Nazis and their allies the win.
  • March 1933

    The federal elections were held in Germany and he won the popular vote by about 10 million people. This helped make him more powerful because now the public loved him and he knew that they all followed him and his beliefs.
  • 1934 SS

    Hitler formed a unit called the SS that was completely loyal to Hitler. He used this group to arrest and murder hundreds of his enemies. Because many people were scared of the Nazis secret police many Germans were to afraid to stand up against him so they became completely obedient to him.
  • Nuremberg Rally

    A rally for freedom was held by the Nazi party and the Nuremberg Laws were introduced. The laws excluded German Jews from citizenship and other basic rights. It made Hitler more powerful because he was now able to control the people in their daily/personal lives.
  • Night of Broken Glass

    Violence against the Jews occurred on this day. Many churches, schools, and businesses were burned down and dozens of Jews were killed. It helped Hitler gain more power because now many Germans hated the Jews and began to try to get rid of them in order to follow Hitler's beliefs.
