  • Olive Branch Petition

    The purpose of the Olive Branch Petition was made by the colonist to prevent them from going to war with Britain. The King didn't except the petition and declared that the colonist were rebelling. The impact it had on the Revolutionary war was that this was the last chance to get along with Britain.
  • Second Continental Congress

    The Second Continental Congress voted to go to war against Britain and they voted General Washington to be a commander. They were made of up wealth and middle class men and played a big role. The impact they had was during the war they helped with funds to help the army that was fighting.
  • Lexington & Concord

    The British were supposed to take guns from the colonist at Concord but they refused and more troops were sent. In the village of Lexington there was 77 minuteman and fought against the British soldiers and as a result 8 died and 10 were wounded. The impact is that this was the first war in the Revolutionary War.
  • Bunker Hill

    At The Battle of Bunker Hill this is were the colonist lost to the British army. This battle lasted for 1775-1776. The impact it had on the Revolutionary war was that it was the first lost of the colonist and the army had to retreat.
  • George Washington

    The Continental Congress appointed him as the commander in chief of the army in 1775. He lead the colonist to victory during the Revolutionary War. His impact in the Revolutionary War was big because of his strategies. He later became the first president of the United States and then later died at the age of 67 at his Virginia home.
  • French and English Enlightenment

    The French and English Enlightenment helped make a foundation for American. With ideas that came from people like John Locke. The impact it had on the Revolution is that brought light of what the government should like and what rights the people should have.
  • John Locke

    John Locke's ideas were important to the making of the Declaration of Independence. John Locke came up with the idea that everyone had natural rights and social contract. Natural rights is what is given to you, like life and liberty. Social contract is when people agree to some type of government and they protect your rights. This had a big impact because without this ideas there would be no Declaration of Independence.
  • Thomas Jefferson

    Thomas Jefferson is the writer of the Declaration of Independence and later became the 3rd president of the United States. He got the inspiration from John Locke, Locke's ideas of natural rights and social contract. He didn't agree with topics like slavery which isn't popular during the time. He would die at the age of 83 in 1826. He had a big impact because of Jefferson the declaration was made and gave people freedom.
  • Declaration of Independence

    The Declaration of Independence stated that the colonies are breaking away from Britain and stating they are independent. Thomas Jefferson as the writer of the declaration. The Declaration of Independence grants people rights and to overthrow the government if it isn't right and it gave people equality but in realty it didn't. This had a big impact because it the first self government in America.
  • Trenton

    This is a battle that was held at Trenton where the colonist have won because they of General Washington. The way that they won this battle was by a surprise attack in the morning of December 26. From this battle it showed that the colonist were in control of New Jersey. This had an impact because it is one war that was won in 1 week and it pushed the British back.
  • Princeton

    These was the second win in the same week. General Washington attacked the British soldiers in Princeton but the attack was rather at night. As a result of this fight it gave the colonist hope that they will get their freedom. This had an impact because it gave the people hope for independence.
  • Valley Forge

    The Continental Congress was pushed out by the British and the army had to suffer through the hard winter. The army was running low on food and clothes. This would become the turning point of the war because Burgoyne’s surrender this army because they were surrounded with Washington in West Point, NY and General Horatio
    Gates In Satorga NY. This had a big impact because the colonist made a comeback that would help them defeat the British.
  • Saratoga

    The British Army was pushed back by General Washington in West Point because they were at a lost but waiting at Saratoga was General Horatio Gates who would then surround the British. They would then surrender their 6 generals, 300 officers, and 5,500 personnel. It had a big impact because it would show hope and that the colonist are in control of their land.
  • France (Treaty of Amity & Commerce, Treaty of Alliance)

    The French and American had alliances. In the Treaty of Amity & Commerce is where French would trade and bring things into America if it is needed. The Treat of Alliance is where if French were to enter the war that both countries would continue to fight until the colonies are independent and that neither will have a treaty with Britain unless the other agrees. This has an important impact because it showed that America isn't alone and that they can will with help from French.
  • Spain

    Spain was upset about losing their land during the Seven Year War so they were trying to get it back. They had an alliance with French but not with America and Spain also declared war on Britain. It had a big impact because that means that America isn't the only one fighting Britain and Britain can be weaken.
  • Cowspen

    This is were a battle took place where the colonist beat Britain. It took place in Cowspen, South Carolina and General Charles Cornwallis was the leader of the British army. The British decided to move up to Virginia, This had a big impact because it is showing that America is winning and are getting close to freedom.
  • Yorktown

    The British have retreated back to Virginia but they were need surrounded, General Charles Cornwallis surrendered his troops of 8,000 soldiers. Britain was at a lost and this had a big impact on America because they were winning and Britain was weakening their forces.
  • Treaty of Paris 1783

    This is where the 13 colonies are now given freedom, independence and sovereignty by the British government. This was the biggest impact because they final got their freedom that they were fighting for.
