    In the battles of April 19, 1775, British leaders found out that Patriots had stored weapons in Concord, Massachusetts. Soldiers were ordered to capture them. Paul Revere and two other men rode with him to warn that the British were coming.

    Declaration of Independence
    After the Declaration of Independence was adopted by the Continental Congress Thomas Jefferson made some changes. The Declaration of Independence stated that the 13 colonies were free from Great Britain. When Jefferson was finished on August 2, 56 members of the Congress and 9 delegates began signing the final draft.

    Crossing the Delaware River
    George Washington was planning a surprise attack. They were targeting the Hessians in Trenton, New Jersey. To attack the Hessians they needed to cross the Delaware River. They carried 1,400 men. They attacked on December 26.
  • Surrender at Yorktown

    Surrender at Yorktown
    In October 19, 1781 the main British army surrendered at Yorktown to Washington. This victory led to success against the British.
  • Treaty of Paris 1783

    Treaty of Paris 1783
    After the rest of the British surrendered in Paris, France a new Treaty of Paris 1783 was signed. This treaty ended the American Revolutionary War.
