In kindergarten, we would regularly go on the computer and do this program that took us through exercises until he mastered a letter before taking us to the next one.
  • Writing my own book

    Writing my own book
I was a storyteller, writing really lame stories that I came up with. My mom wrote it for me but I came up with the story. I called it "Alien and the Egg," where my mom has the only copy.
  • Captain Underpants

    Captain Underpants
I got into a book series called "Captain Underpants" and it was my favorite series. I remember looking at one in a bookstore and finishing it in the store before leaving. I think it's what pushed me to read more.
  • Picking books every week

    Picking books every week
In third grade, I got into books. Not very much reading, but having books. There were some that I would read really fast because I liked them, and others I would only read a couple pages. One series I read a lot was the "Bailey School Kids" series.
  • Getting Highest Reading Level

    Getting Highest Reading Level
In fifth grade, we were placed in reading groups by our reading level, categorized by colors. I was the only one in my class to get the highest level, and it boosted my self-esteem, giving me a chance to try for harder books.
  • My First Book Binge

    My First Book Binge
One day I was grounded and really bored, so I picked up the first Harry Potter book. I had tried to read it before but I kept losing interest. This time I read all 320 pages in one day. I finished the entire series in two months. It made me realize just how much emotion could be put in a series, and how much I could get involved. I read Twilight in the same manner a few years down the load, though I was disappointed in the ending.
  • Learning Advanced Reading

    Learning Advanced Reading
In high school, we started learning more advanced subjects in reading. I was taught how to break down complicated and convoluted sentences and find the meaning or question in them.
  • My longest book

    My longest book
The book that got me into my favorite genre of reading now was "IT" by Stephen King, and is my favorite book still today. It was 1090 pages, which came off like a challenge, but made me realize that I a) really enjoy long books, and b) really enjoy serious books. I now always go to Stephen King for books, and give a lot more faith in serious-looking books.
  • AP English

    AP English
I was put in AP English where they had us write an essay every monday of the year. This involved reading a passage of some sort and then writing a page essay, all in 50 minutes. My teacher taught us how to read fast and gather information faster. Now essays are not really a challenge for me, and neither is reading academic material. I was actually the one people went to for editing.
