Q6) What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

  • Canon 7D DSLR - Camera

    Canon 7D DSLR - Camera
Before we started to look into the construction of our products, we needed to learn how to operate the equipment correctly so that we capture good quality images, but as well make sure we don't break the camera.
We learnt how to operate the shutters to reduce the chance of blurred photos. After some practice, the camera became simple to use giving me the basics to capture images with different focus settings and use the lens to zoom for the more tricky subjects.
  • Lighting

From the two studios at Winstanley College, I was able to capture my images and use their lighting sets to create key light on my subjects. I placed the equipment in various angles to see the effect, however my research suggests that it is best to use it from the left, projecting on to the right.
  • Photoshop CS6 - Editing

    Photoshop CS6 - Editing
After learning to use the camera and going out with my models to capture the images I needed. I used a software called Adobe PhotoShop CS6. On this software it offered various ways to edit the photo.
I used the tool called the 'magic wand' which allowed me highlight a colour.
Another tool I used was the lasso tool, this allowed me to highlight structured areas of the photo and create effects.
On my product I used the stamp tool to remove logos on the clothing of the models.
  • Software - Used for Evaluation

Throughout the evaluation I used many softwares to present my answers. The softwares used are as follows: Q1 - Prezi
    Q2 - Microsoft Powerpoint
    Q3 - GoConqr Mind Maps
    Q4 - Powtoon
    Q5 - Document
    Q6 - Timetoast
    Q7 - Document
  • Development of skills in Technology

My skills in production work have improved since the start of the course as I have learned how to properly operate the DSLR to get the best images possible before editing. I've also developed my Photoshop skills by being able to edit my images well and create the same features as you would see on real life magazines, and to make it look professional, this includes codes and conventions like key light and main concepts like cinematography. (Angles, lighting, selective focus, etc.)
  • How I could improve - End review

With regards to technology, there are still things I need to improve on as I don't know how to use everything on Photoshop and the camera yet; I could learn to use more features in order to make my images and magazine look better.
To improve I could also learn more about different softwares which provide better quality and presentation. There are also different concepts to consider in cinematography therefore if I learn some more I could make my image fit better to my product.
