I Was Born
I was born into a working class family. Neither of my parents had any higher education qualifications however my dad's brother was a secondary school maths teacher. Growing up I admired the lifestyle of my cousins as a higher income family and knew I wanted to go to University and study further like my Uncle did. This was hugely encouraged by my parents as they wanted me to do better in school than they did. -
Numeracy Matters
One of the first acts of the new Labour government was to announce national targets for literacy and numeracy. The Numeracy Task Force was set up in May 1997 and was asked to develop and national strategy to raise standards in Numeracy. Source -
I Started Nursery
The day after my 3rd birthday I started at Glebefields Primary School in Tipton. After almost a year in the following October I moved to the Oldbury area where I attended Warley Infants. -
AS-Levels
New AS-Levels are introduced as a result of curriculum 2000. -

The first Academies open their doors. There is also a row over grading of A2 and AS levels which leads to 10,000 students having remarks. -
I Started School
My first day of full time school at Warley Infants. In infant school I learned that my favourite subject was numeracy and was keen to explore the subject further. -

I Started Junior School
I moved up to Bleakhouse Junior School where I discovered my passion and talent within Mathematics as well as in the performing arts. -
Mathematics in the Curriculum
The Act added the Foundation Stage as a statutory part of the National Curriculum and created a legislative distinction between Key Stages One to Three and Key Stage Four. This was in order to make possible changes to the Key Stage Four curriculum in future to provide opportunities to tailor education to the needs of individual students. Source -
I taught my first lesson
In year 6 I was offered the opportunity to teach a lesson to the rest of my class on any subject I wanted. I chose to do a lesson on coordinates and roped in a friend to help. I put together a power-point presentation and led the lesson for a full hour at only 11 years old. This was when I truly discovered my love for teaching. -

I am offered 'acceleration' into year 10
Following a movement with saw the end of year 9 SATS, I was offered the opportunity to start working towards my GCSE exams in year 9 and sit them in year 10. In year 8, I opted to do GCSEs in RE, Music and German. -
School Receives Academy Status
Oldbury College of Sports becomes Oldbury Academy and the new building is progressing -

Sixth Form Year
After completing all my GCSEs a year early I spent year 11 in the sixth form studying Level 3 Performing Arts (Acting and Musical Theatre) and Additional GCSE Maths. Alongside my studies I did some work experience in and around the school including in the Maths department and the Drama department. -
School 'Requires Improvement'
Following and Ofsted report, school starts to go downhill which prompted me to leave the school at the end of the year and attend college elsewhere. -
DfE Changes
Michael Gove is reshuffled out of the DfE and replaced by Nicky Morgan. -
College
I started at King Edward VI College Stourbridge studying A Levels in Maths with Statistics, Classical Civilisations and Dance. I was offered an unconditional place as a result of having already achieved my GCSE results in year 10. -
New Curriculum: Mathematics
The new programmes of study for Mathematics came into force for pupils in years 2, 6 and 10. -
