    Martin luther king graduates from Morehouse College. He then enters Crozer Theological Seminary. At the age of 19 he is ordained to the baptist minestry.

    Martin Lithe King JR. enters Boston University for graduate studies. He still pursues his minestry with the church. He earns his Ph.D. in systematic theology.
  • Boycott

    Rosa Parks sat on the back of the bus on December 1st ,and was asked to move to the front because of her color. She refused to be moved because she was no different than the whites. She was later arrested for doing so. Dr. Martin Luther king joined the bus boycott to stand up for her.

    He is elected president of the Montgomery Improvement Association, making him the official spokesman for the boycott. He made so much progress in his fight to free segregation. This was only the beginning.

    Thanks to Dr. Martin Luther King JR. and the boycott. The Supreme Court rules that bus segregation is illegal. This was the first step in ending segregation.

    King forms the Southern Christian Leadership Conference to fight segregation and achieve civil rights. Dr. KIng speaks to 15,000 at Washington, D.C. This was a big speech for him.

    Dr. King publishes his first book "Stride Toward Freedom". The book was about the Montgomery bus boycott. King described his book as "the chronicle of fifty thousand Negroes who took to heart the principles of nonviolence, who learned to fight for their rights with the weapon of love, and who, in the process, acquired a new estimate of their own human worth.’’

    Martin Luther King Jr was signing his newly published book at a Harlem bookstore, a 42-year-old woman, apparently deranged, suddenly started screaming and plunged a knife into the civil right leader's chest.He was taken to Harlem Hospital, where a surgeon operated on him successfully. King's life was saved.

    King is arrested with Ralph Abernathy by Police Commissioner Eugene "Bull" Connor for demonstrating without a permit.A great man wrote, "Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere." That man was Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. He should not have been arrested in his efforts to create peace.

    The March on Washington is the largest civil rights demonstration in history with nearly 250,000 people in attendance.At the march, King makes his famous I Have a Dream speech. This would be known as the greatest speeches of all time.

    Times magazine chooses Mr King as there man of the year. They interviewed Mr. King about Birmingham.And there was Birmingham with its bombs and snarling dogs; its shots in the night and death in the streets and in the churches; its lashing fire hoses that washed human beings along slippery avenues without washing away their dignity; its men and women pinned to the ground by officers.

    King attends the signing ceremony of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 at the White House.Despite Kennedy’s assassination in November of 1963, his proposal culminated in the Civil Rights Act of 1964, signed into law by President Lyndon Johnson just a few hours after House approval on July 2, 1964. The act outlawed segregation in businesses such as theaters, restaurants, and hotels. It banned discriminatory practices in employment and ended segregation in public places such as swimming pools, librarie
  • Nobel Peace Prize

    Nobel Peace Prize
    King is awarded the Nobel Peace Prize on December 10. Dr. King is the youngest person to be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for Peace at age 35."I accept the Nobel Prize for Peace at a moment when 22 million Negroes of the United States of America are engaged in a creative battle to end the long night of racial injustice. I accept this award on behalf of a civil rights movement which is moving with determination and a majestic scorn for risk and danger to establish a reign of freedom."

    King was on the brink of ending descrimination. He was arrested and critizied but he kept fighting.King initiates a campaign to end discrimination in housing, employment, and schools in Chicago.

    On November 27, King announces the inception of the Poor People's Campaign focusing on jobs and freedom for the poor of all races. He was starting to take charge to his words.Although he was having trouble with the whites trying to stop him.

    Dr. king kept his protest peaceful for years and did alot of good. However On March 28, King lead a march that turns violent. This was the first time one of his events had turned violent.

    Dr. King once said "i have a dream" and his dream happened now descrimination is slim. Unfortunately he couldnt see it happen.At sunset on April 4, Martin Luther King, Jr. is fatally shot while standing on the balcony of the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, Tennessee.
