Make Room for Baby

  • 1st Month of Pregnancy

    The body will begin to produce hormones The embryo is developing quickly, it is roughly 1/2'. The heart, brain, spinal cord, lungs, face, arms, legs, ears, and eyes are in porgress. The heart will begin beating by the end of this month.
  • 2nd Month

    The females Estrogen increases 1000x. Brain is rapidly developing and controls movement. Arms and legs are becoming longer and more shapely. Other organs begin to work, such as the liver and the stomach. Eyes begin to take on color and eyelids form. Details on the face begin to happen. Head is large and represents approximately 1/2 the body.
  • 3rd Month

    Baby is now called a fetus. All organs are present and working but still immature. Heart begins to pump harder. Kidneys start functioning. Bones are growing. Fetus moves often, but cannot be felt by the mother. Toes and Fingers take shape and now has fingerprints
  • 4th Month - Second Trimester

    Fingernails begin to appear. The umbilical cord is growing and is carrying blood and nourishment to the fetus. The fetus is developing air passages but they are not yet in use.
  • 5th Month

    Hair begins to appear on eyelashes, eyebrows, and scalp. Lungs begin to receive an ample blood supply. Lanugo (soft body hair) and vernix caseosa (protective coating) protecting the baby's skin from the amniotic fluid. Mother begins to have food cravings and aversions.
  • 6th Month

    The fetus is 8-12 inches long and weighs 12-18 ounces. The fetus is very active. Some of the activities include stretching, kicking, sucking the thumb, and opening and closing the eyes. The fetus can hear sounds and breathing movements can occur. All organs are maturing. Uterus grows very rapidly. Fetus develops fat under the skin.
  • 7th Month - Third Trimester

    The Fetus moves 30 times per hour. Fetus is gaining weight and length rapidly. Soft and flexible bones are developing.
  • 8th Month

    Organs are squeezed as the mother's body tries to make more room for the fetus.
  • 9th Month

    The fetus continues to grow and develop. Movements will decrease as fetus has less room to move in the uterus. Muscles and joints loosen. Fetus will move into the final position to prepare for birth, the fetus will move into the birthing position with its head down and nose to the mother's backbone. The fetus is born!
