    the local Black population dispersed, likely to Owen Sound as well as to a new Black settlement in the Queen’s Bush north of Fergus at Glen Allan. The new Black settlement in lower Peel Township included Black Loyalists and escaped slaves and by 1840 this area of the Queen’s Bush was home to 1,500 Black Scottish settlers as well as 1,000 White settlers.
