    Chinese classical opera started during the Yuan Dynasty from 1279-1368. The performance of opera tells a story with musical instruments and singing.

    From the 1600's through the 1700's, western classical music was very popular. 1756 was whenWolfgang Amadeus Mozart was born and 1770 was when Ludwig Van Beethoven was born. In the picture, Mozart is on the left, Beethoven on the right.

    In 1877, the phonograph was inventer by Thomas Edison. People could finally replay and record music for the first time.

    In the Southern United States, blues music was developing. The blues developed by African Americans and came from work and spiritual songs. Singers who sang blues music mostly sang about lost love (like Taylor Swift now).

    Jazz became popular in New Orleans, Louisiana. Groups suchas the Original Pixieland Jazz Band made jazz music become more popular. By 1916, jazz had spread across the United States.The first jazz recordings were recorded in 1917

    The term "pop song" was first used in the early 1920's. But when it was first used, pop songs were not the music of young people. From the start of the 1900's to the 1950's, pop music was popular to many different people.
    Later on, pop music was the type of music that mostly just teens liked. The genre such as rock and roll,or blues didn't matter as long as teens liked it.

    In the 1930's, music finallystarted to become more upbeat. Classical formed into a "boogie"/ dance music.

    The blues genre of music developed into rock and roll by Elvis Presly who then became an international star by 1956. The firdt rock and roll music started from a variety of race music. This includes blues and R&B (rhythmn and blues). Most of the first musicians were African American such as Fats Domino, LittleRichard, Chuck Berry, and Ike Turner.

    Almost all pieces of rock music from the 1950's was considered pop music. It was enjoyed by teens because it showed disobidience and angst.

    Family memvers that formedpop groups were very big in the 1970's. For example, there was Jackson 5 made up of the Jackson family members: Jackie, Tito, Jermaine, Marlon, and Michael.

    The culture of hip hop started in the Bronx,New York. People were break dancing on streets and sidewalks, and there was new fashion and graffiti everywhere.

    The head of programming for Warner-Amex Satellite Entertainment, Bob Pittman, wanted to create a "video radio station." This station would show music videos, music news, and other music related programs. After it was created, it ran 24/7 for all music lovers to watch.

    Today, we have a lot of new technology people can use such as digital recording software to record all different genres of music. We also have many different music artists such as Nicki Minaj, Britney Spears, Pitbull,Bruno Mars, Katy Perry and many, many more that are and will continue to be popular.
