    Eli Whitney is the man who invented the Cotton Gin in 1794 that which helped along the economy and industry in the south.
  • The Underground Railroad

    The Underground Railroad started around 1810 and continued to help free hundreds slaves throughout the Civil War. This was a secret trail for slaves mapped out by Harriet Tubman from North Carolina to Canada when she was freed.
  • Southern Slavery and the Bible

    This piece of literature was made for Southerners and to encourage their beliefs of finding slavery humane and acceptable. This was used to justify slavery
  • Harriet Tubman

    Harriet Tubman was a slave who was born into slavery who was later on freed and helped hundreds of other slaves to freedom. Her original birth name was Araminta Ross, which she changed later on. She was born in Dorchester County in Maryland.

    This was a weekly newspaper that influence a large majority of anti-slavery throughout the U.S. that was written by William Lloyd Garrison. His work was very prominent in the anti-slavery movement pre-Civil War
  • Nat Turner's slave rebellion

    Nat Turner led a rebellion of black slaves for their freedom in Southampton County, Virginia. around fifty to sixty people were killed.
  • Fugitive Slave Act

    This law is what required slaves to be returned to their owners even if they had been staying in a free state. This act made it so the federal government was responsible for finding slaves that had escaped.
  • Uncle Tom's Cabin

    This novel was written by Harriet Beecher Stowe.This novel helped with the beginnings of the Civil War and effected the way many looked at slavery and the freedom of slaves.
  • The Negro's Place in Nature by James Hunt

    This book is one of the top primary sources for books on the topic of Slavery. The authors speaks about how the treatment of African Americans is cruel and inhumane.
