    On April 23, 1635 The Boston Latin School was opened and led by schoolmaster Philemon Mormont. It was a boys only school. The Boston Latin School is the oldest existing school in the U.S.A
  • Perkins School for the Blind

    Perkins School for the Blind
    Perkins school for the blind was founded by Dr. John dix Fisher and Dr. Samuel Gridley Howe in 1829. The school was located at 140 Pleasant Street in Boston. The school officially opened its doors on in August of 1832.
  • The Establishment of Common Schools

    Horace Mann was a Boston legislator and secretary of state's board of education. Horace began to advocate for common schools that would be universally available to all children. He advocated that the schools should be funded by the state and free of charge.

    Students with disabilities or abnormalities were being expelled from schools. Though the students were fine their physical conditions "nauseated" teachers and peers.

    Brown v. Board of Education
    The Supreme Court overruled the "separate but equal" principle which denied students their right to education. Racial discrimination could not be used to deny students their rights to education. This case brought attention to the need for special education programs.
